Jimmy Powells Music

A chance encounter hearing The Last thing on my mind by The Seekers got me interested in folk style music which, in the thriving Edinburgh folk scene in 1969, found me with so many opportunities to hear live music on acoustic instruments.

 

Guitar, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, double bass, autoharp, accordion, concertina, fiddle. I had a go at all these instruments.

 

Russian mandolin virtuoso Dave Appollon with his Gibson F5 blew me away and lead me to a life of acoustic music focussing primarily on mandolin and acoustic guitar.

 

Playing, collecting and trading in acoustic instruments have been my life as well as a heavy interest in playing and watching sport.
